After the World Table Hockey Championship which took place on June 10-12 in Turku, Finland it is possible with the full right to name Saint-Petersburg the capital of world table hockey!It became known after:
1)
Oleg Dmitrichenko (Saint-Petersburg) became the first Russian world champion in the open competition – in the final game he won a victory over double world champion Roni Nuttunen from Finland!
2)
Maria Yalbacheva (Saint-Petersburg) became the double world champion after outplaying Maria Saveljeva from Estonia in the final game;
3)
Maxim Borisov (Saint-Petersburg) became the world champion among juniors, Oleg Dmitrichenko and Pavel Gorodnitskiy became silver and bronze winners;
4) Junior national team of Russia
which fully consists of representatives of Saint-Petersburg table hockey (Maxim Borisov, Pavel Gorodnitskiy, Oleg Dmitrichenko) became the world champion in the junior team category.
It is also necessary to make special mention of the absolute success of national team of Russia which became the world champion for the second time in the team category. This time the team outplayed with 19-3 score the national team of Finland where previous world champion Roni Nuttunen and European champion Ahti Lampi played. Saint-Petersburg players Maxim Borisov (10 points from 10 in the final game against Finland) and Oleg Dmitrichenko (20 points from 20 in series against Latvia and Finland) became real heroes of the game!
Saint-Petersburg players Maxim Borisov, Andrey Voskoboynikov, Pavel Gorodnitskiy, Oleg Dmitrichenko, Igor Masloboev, Vitaly Skorobogatov and Alexey Titov became world champions in different team categories (open, junior, veteran).Moscow table hockey which set the pitch in Russia for years, won the gold medal in veterans category thanks to the success of
Dmitriy Petrov who won Janne Kokko from Finland in the final game.
About 200 table hockey players from 17 countries of the world including Latvia, Sweden, Czech Republic etc. took part in the world championship. In general Russian national team where 9 of 18 players were from Saint-Petersburg won 7 of 8 gold medals!
The success of Saint-Petersburg players became possible thanks to well-tuned strategic policy which is conducted by Table Hockey Federation of Saint-Petersburg for a long time. There are 10 table hockey sections in Saint-Petersburg and also about 100 tournaments per year including Children’s Cup, Saint-Petersburg Masters, Saint-Petersburg Open, team and personal championships of Russia.
International Table Hockey Federation granted Saint-Petersburg the right to be the host of Team World Championship where the best table hockey teams of the world will take part in May 2012.
